The message of the “After the Storm” interactive website is if you are a disaster survivor to take in the account of the disaster and realize what was, what is, and what will be. The author tells the listener at the end about how when they are in the moment of the disaster to realize that nothing will be the same again. I believe the audience is to any disaster survivors as well as anyone who hasn’t encountered a disaster. The author frequently gives direct advice to both groups of people. Yes, the author organized the website different then the essay, this time it wasn’t in chronological order it used in media res. This provided a better understanding to his point that you will never forget a disaster. I felt grief for all the people who were affected by both storms he mentions on the website. The change in format changed the tone slightly to a more somber, more hopeful tone. The design was entirely changed which changed the context from being right after the second storm to awhile after.

The three pages are easy to locate, they are right under the title on the home page. A user would navigate these by clicking on a desired page and having it be displayed below. Consistent on all pages. The blog posts are very easily read. They have clear larger font on the title of the blog post followed by thin, appropriately thin fonts in the paragraph. Important phrases and quotes are bolded in the paragraphs, and listed things are numbered or bulleted nicely. The blogger has embedded resources she has referenced in her blog posts. This allows a user to be able to have a deeper understanding of her posts. As well as, she is able to be more personable in her writing. It is easy to see the main topic of each page, when you click on the "Blog" page you immediately see a list of blog posts. The overall tone of the posts is very original and personable with hooks like "As I've said before..."
Working on an essay for me is a process of cut and dry steps with a wash and dry repeating method of adding originality to the essay. I personally believe that without a strong thesis an essay stands no chance of being good. To craft a thesis, I usually start with sentence placement within the introduction paragraph and then shift towards writing the actual line. I prefer not to make my thesis the last line in the paragraph because I feel it adds an original personal touch to the essay. As well as, I never want my thesis to not flow with the rest of the introduction paragraph. When writing the actual line I use the classic “x…because…A,B,C” format. “x” being my point I’m trying to make, “A,B,C” being my three reasons I can prove “x”. Then, I think of sort of a rough draft thesis in my head. I think of a quick “A,B,C” usually one word or a simple idea; however, when actually writing the three “A,B,C” points in my thesis I think of a more educated way that is more specific to the essay to write them. Then using my thesis and introduction paragraph I make the central themes of all three of my body paragraphs the “A,B,C” ideas I discussed in my thesis. This allows me to not have to focus as hard on the meat of the essay because I’ve allowed my thesis to do all the work. I do this but I also carry essential themes through the essay such as audience, message, and other analysis tools and show how they relate to the individual theme I’m discussing in my paragraph. Then when writing the conclusion, I funnel all the ideas I’ve proposed into one or two collectivized points I try and give to my audience. Then I do several sweep readings of my essay and correct sentence placement, grammatical errors, and make sure that the essay flows and gets the point I was trying to make across.
Based on the video I can tell that the speaker is a huge pessimist. Not only does he sound like he doesn’t enjoy his profession, it sounds like he doesn’t enjoy his life. Even when he describes being alone, he describes it as being mundane. Ironically, I think he is trying to communicate to pessimists alike. In the end of the video he shows the ingredients of his beloved mac and cheese and they are the same ingredients that the towns he hated grew as their main source of income. I believe the speaker is trying to send a message that it’s the small things that you don’t notice that make up the grand attitude of your entire life. A message that certainly most pessimists need to hear. While I didn’t find the video funny, entertaining, or uplifting I found some comfort that someone in the media is attempting to teach people to dig deeper into why they don’t enjoy the everyday routine of life. That is a message I believe in and have learned over time. I believe that if you don’t enjoy the small mundane tasks of the day then the parts of life you are looking forward to won’t be as enjoyable. This is because you wouldn’t have prepared yourself for the things you enjoy in turn making you less successful. If there’s one thing I learned from playing High School football is that winning is the best way to have the most fun. So therefore, if you don’t enjoy the small parts of life you can’t enjoy the biggest parts of life in return. Something I believe the speaker communicates well in his video.
